Some textile patches had been applied to thereverse as a means of repair for tears in the original canvas. These had been applied very wet with (hot) animal glue. Despite pressing the original canvas shrunk in the area of the patch causing wrinkles in the pictorial layer. Upon drying and shrinking of the glue patches extreme creases developed around the patch.
Treatment
-removal of the patch and glue from reverse
-securing tear with Polyestergauze
-flattening treatment of creases and folds
-limited retouching
