Portrait Ludwig I. - removal of patches and flatening

Holes in the canvas had been secured with a variety of fabric patches. Two of theses had obviously applied very wet with hot bone glue. This caused wrinkling of the paintlayer and creasing of the surrounding canvas upon drying.

Treatment

-mechanical removal of patches and glue
-securing of tear with polyestergauze patches
-flattening of creases
- retouching
