The reception hall at Schloß Drachenburg, Königswinter opens to the adjoining rooms the Nibeliungen room and the dining hall by huge sliding doors. The doors stencilled decoration was covered with several thick coats of paint and filler.
While the original polychromy on the sides pointing to to the Nibelungen room could be largely recovered this was not feasible on opposite sides facing the reception hall.
The original decoration of the reception hall sides could be retraced from the gussets, where it was possible to remove the overpaint. The doorleafs were covered with canvas and the reconstructed stencil decoration applied on top.
